Field Preparation for Planting of Tea

Field Preparation for Planting of Tea

For field preparation we are following the step in marked area..

  • Uprooting - To be uprooted all Tea & Shade plants and clear the residue with stump.

  • Sub - Soiling-  After that we shall use the Sub-Soiler in marked area for broken the sub-soil layer and residue of roots.

  • Ploughing - After completion of sub-soiling start ploughing  and again ploughing after harrowing.

  • Harrowing -  It will give us Soil clods/lumps free  & smooth land after ploughing .

  • Land Levelling - Land will be leveled with the help of leveler in 2 rounds.

  • Dolomite Application - After 1 round levelling apply Dolomite as per soil testing report if pH is low from 4.5  ( 2 ton/ha. for 1 pH up).

  • Cultivater Ploughing- For perfect levelling and ready field for planting, we use 2 rounds Cultivator in field.

  • Land Levelling (2) - Again land will level with the help of leveler for smooth surface before planting.

  • Drainage Planing & Digging -

Prepare and layout a drainage plan on            map before digging.

  • On Tillas :- There are no ploughing/ harrowing require in Tillas plantation due to soil erosion.
  • Contour Drain -

  1. In high slop on every 8-10 foot slop.
  2. In little slop on every 15 - 20 foot slop.

  • In Flat Area -
  • Sectional or Feeder Drain -

  1. In section on every 40' to 60' or best 42'-45' foot vertically prepare it ,
  2. For 11 or 12 row of plantation with 3.5' x 2.5' spacing.
  3. Size - 3'(Depth)  x  1'(Breadth)

  • Collector Drain -
  1. on every 180' horizontally of feeder drain in section. It will be best if keep 5' passage after parralar of collector drain for supervision of drain & Row( Every Row will be 5 Nulls).
  2. Size -3.5'(Depth) x 1.5'(Breadth).

  • Sub- Main drain -

  1. on every 360' Vertically to collect the drainage water from collector drains.
  2. Size -4'(Depth) x 2'(Breadth).

  • Main Drain

  1. It depend on topography of Tea Estate.
  2. Size -5' (Depth) x 2.5'-3'(Breadth).

  • Pipe Drain -

  1. This type of drain require in sandy soil to check erosion of soil.
  2. On every 45 meter spacing laydown 4" diameter pipe with proper planning & equipments at the depth of 5'-6' after topography survey.

  • Bed Preparation - After digging the drains level all excavated soil on the plantation bed.

  • Soil Rehabilitation -Before planting of tea in any area, the area needs to be rehabilitated for the proper growth, development & sustained productivity. By planting of Guatemala we improve the soil structure and Nitrogen percentage of that area.

  • Guatemala (Tripsacum Laxum) Planting - It can produce 100 tonnes of green matter/ha.

  • Planting- Cut stem of Guatemala with 2-3 eye in size of 2' for cuttings and plant it in oblique manner upto 1 eye.

  • Spacing - 2' x 2' ( 26909 cuttings/ha.)

  • Manuring - NPK(2:1:3 ratio) - 300-600 kgs/ha.

  • Looping -
  1. 1st chopping after 6 months of planting.
  2. Then 2nd chopping after 2 months as required.

After 18 months, use tractor driven grass cutting machine for chopping of Guatemala and use his mulch in newly planted young teas.
