Nusery for Shade Trees

  • Preparation of Bed - Prepare a bed with size of 50' (Length) x 5' (breadth).

  • Drain size should be 18"(breadth) x 24"(depth) between beds & 24" x 30" in periphery of Shade nursery . 


  • Soil of bed - Mix SSP 400 gr. & Quick lime 400 gr. / square meter (or 20 gr./ Feet) with top soil of bed.


  • Verieties - 

  • Annual Shade Trees - Medula, Arhar(Cajanus Cajan)....


  • Binnial & Prennial Shade Trees - Crotoleria Anagyroides, Indigofera Teysmani, Desmodium, Gliricidia Sepium...


  • Permanent Shade Trees - Albizzia Chinensis, Alb. Lebbek, Alb. Odoratissima, Acacia Lenticularis, Dalbergia Sericea, D. Sisoo...


  • Seed Sowing - After 2 or 3 days sow shade's seed in deep of 1" , Seeds should be soaked in a little warm water before 12 hours of sowing.


  • Take care of pest & weed (by Hand weeding) as per requirement.


  • After 1 year, shade trees will be ready for planting in section at the height of  5' (Foot), 


  • Before planting in section from nursery the top of shade trees should cut (on the height of 5') and tie it with jute & fresh cow dung. 



 Planting of Shade Trees :-

April month is best time for planting of Shade Trees after receiving good rain  (above 2")..


  • Pit's Size - 3' x 2' (90 cm. x 60 cm.) 

                             2.5' x 2' (75 cm. x 60 cm.) 


  • Nos of Shade Trees per Hectare:-

  • Planting Mixture per Pit :-

          Well rotted Cattle Manure - 5/6 kgs

          SSP/RP                                    - 0.5 kg

          Dolomite                                - 1.0 kg

          Wood Ash                              - 0.5  kg


  • Advantage of Shade Trees :-

  1. Fire wood for worker.
  2. Extra nitrogen fixation by shade trees.
  3. Humus add by leaves of shade trees.
  4. Check soil erosion by deep root system of shade trees.
  5. Well condition for tea plants with shadow.
