Tea Nursery & Planting of Tea
Nursery for Tea
- Area requirement for Nursery- 1 Hactare area will be required for a nursery capacity of 6 lakhs plants.
- Area for cuttings - From 1 Acre Plantation area we can take 5 -6 lakhs clonal cuttings.
- Preparation of Bed - Prepare a curve shaped bed with size of 50' (Length) x 5' (breadth).
- The direction of bed will be East to West in length to minimize the damage from sun scorching.
- Drain size should be 12"(breadth) x 18"(depth) between beds & 18" x 24" in periphery of nursery .
- Soil - Mix SSP 400 gram/square meter and sand with soil for tube filling.
- Verieties -
- For Cuttings - TV-1, S3A3, R-94, P-126, TV-9, TV-17, TV-18, TV-22,TV-23, N-436...
- For Seed -
- Spreading Type seed Plant - TS-491, TS-520 (Spacing for Seed Bari -20' x 20')
- Ereet Type seed Plant - TS-449, TS-462, TS-506 (Spacing for Seed Bari -15' x 15')
- Chinery Type seed Plant - TS-378, TS-569 (Spacing for Seed Bari -10' x 10')
- Seed Sowing - Before sowing of seeds in tube, keep it in a pit (size 3' x 3' ) with 6 to 8 layer of sand for 1 week and then choose the medium cracked seed for sowing. During sowing keep cracked portion down side in tube upto 1" deep.
- Cuttings - Take pencil wood cuttings from medium mature branches (Which will be left in tea bushes before 3 months) with one leaf. Now plant it in a tube with the help of a thin stick.
- Total nos of plants in bed(50' x5'):-
Tube size (8" x 6") = 1000 nos
Tube size ( 8" x 5") = 1350 nos
- Shade - Netlon shade will be required for clonal cuttings but no shade require for seeds.
- Callus formation formed after 40 days in clone cuttings.
- Take care of pest & weed as per requirement.
- After 1 year, cuttings will mature for planting at the height of 20" (inch) or 10 - 12 leaves on plant.
Planting of Teas
- Time of planting:-
Non Droughty Areas - October
Droughty Areas. - May/June
- Size of Planting Pits :-
12" x 18" (30 x 45 cm.)
12" x 12" (30 x 30 cm.)
- Mixture in Planting Pits -
Well Rotted Cattle Manure - 4 - 5 kgs
Organic Manure/ Oil Cake - 250 gr.
SSP - 30 gr.
RP - 30 gr.
Phorate. - 2.5 gr.
- Nos of Plants per Hectare:-
Spacing Plants/ha.
3' x 2' 17940
3.5' x 2' 15377
3.5' x 2.5' 12302
4' x 3' 8970
5' x 3' 7176
90 x 60 cm. 18519
105 x 60 cm. 15873
105 x 75 cm. 12695
120 x 90 cm. 9259
150 x 90 cm. 7407
- Calculation Formula for Plant per Hectare
By Mr. S.C. Barua =
N x Area(in ha./Acre) / Y (X+Z)
Where:-
N = Nos of Hedge( 1 for Single Hedge,
2 for Double &
3 for Triple )
Y = Distance between Plant to Plant
Z = Distance between Row to Row
X = Distance between Hedges
(In Triangle Planting cross
X with 0.866)
- Example:- If Double hedge planting is 90 x 60x 60 then detect bush population per hactare...
Solution...
So, X = 90
Y = 60 &
Z = 60
Formula = 2 x 100000000( ha. in cm.)
/60(90+60)
= 200000000/60x 150
= 200000000/9000
= 22222 Plants /ha.
Planting cost/Hectare - @ 12300 Plants/ha.(Spacing 3.5" X 2.5")
Work - Task/Mnds - Mnds/ha.
Stacking - 500 nos - 25
Digging Pits - 100 nos - 123
Carrying Plants - 500 nos - 25
Manuring - 250 nos - 50
Planting Tea - 100 nos - 123
Levelling - 500 nos - 25
Mulching - 200 nos - 62
Watering - 500 nos - 25
------------------------------------------------------------------
Total - 458 nos
Planting Cost/ha. = 458 x 250/-(wages) = 114500 = 9 to 10 Rs/Plant
&
Tea Plant's cost = 6 to 10 Rs/Plant
